Designing a Logo Inspired By the mayan calendar
Desarrolla is a student organization at Duke University that facilitates partnerships between the community and Latin America. I created a logo that is based on a Mayan glyph, inspired by the colorful Latin American textiles, and evokes the continent's landscapes.
Mayans employed a 365-day solar calendar (Jaab') and a 260-day ritual calendar (Tzolk’in). K’an is the name for the fourth day of the 20-day cycle of the Tzolk’in. The K’an glyph represents a grain of corn: a seed that symbolizes the possibility of new life and the prosperity of future generations and of new crops. In the logo, it symbolizes the organization’s role to contribute to the development of Latin America.
